Message internal capacitor which draws power from the ECU's socket. The capacitor keeps the memory conserved for about a week when the car is off. If the car sits longer than that, there is another internal battery which will store the memory for several years. It only uses this battery when the capacitor is discharged. The power cosumption of the flashram is in the microamps.
