Germany has ALWAYS been the most organized and obedient society (maybe except some Asian ones). They have a strong sense of following their leaders (somewhat lost now) and they like peace and order. They can be manipulated because of their strong sense of obedience, and that is why Hitler ever had a chance to become a national leader. He would never have been able to brainwash a country which was not as obedient and rulable as the Germans. So, if they're told to stick to the right lane, they actually do it. It's amazing to see, as I have, 10-15 cars pass a truck at a very high speed and IMMEDIATELY move to the right to let you pass if you're even faster. At the same time, they know that they are allowed to drive fast and that is enough for them - they don't have to manifest it to make themselves sure of it. Most people over there actually drive pretty reasonable - 70-90 mph or less. 10% or less go above 100 mph at length. But, they do talk on their cell phones and drink their coffees. :) Maybe a bit less than you US people do, but that's because of their feeding habits. In Europe, much unlike the US, it's pretty common to have breakfast at home. People rarely go out for breakfast. Maybe that's connected to the fact that in Europe (not in the UK) we have a completely different breakfast habits. We have sandwiches, eggs... Mostly cold stuff. The American breakfast of over easy eggs on bacon, hash browns and maple syrup pancakes makes it a hassle to actually prepare it at home. Making a sandwich and pouring yourself a glass of milk is so much easier. Boy, could I go on on this. I've had a semester of sociology once, so I know could share way more than this.
