it addressed that same question. first, the auto bahn is twice as thick as ANY of our freeways, requires TONS of money (tax payers would love that wouldnt they?) and the second there is even a crack there is construction to fix it in a matter of days. We also lack the strict rules the autobahn uses. things like staying to the right unless you are passing (know anyone who actually does that?!) etc. bascially it was a road hitler built to show off german superiority and the country side of germany. it later became a place for testing automobiles. BTW most of the autobahn now does have speed limits. you have to be far out of any city to get to a place where you can actually gun it.
