Message diameter pipe. That's just the pure mathematics about it. Air flow is air flow. Compressed, HOT, air needs room to move, the added surface area accomodates that. Since the surface area increases as a SQUARE of the radius [A=(pi)r*r], the surface area in a 2.5" downpipe is 4.90sqin. The surface area for a 3" downpipe is 7.07sqin, or 144% more surface area. It makes sense if you think about it, doesn't it? These are stainless steel of course...
