Message The original turbo mufflers were designed for the turbocharged corvair. They used a series of baffles to exhaust sound back on itself and thus reduce noise. This design is the basis for all existing tri-flow muffler designs.

It works fairly well on turbocharged cars because the expander turbine in the turbocharger reduces pressure and acts as a premuffler. On NA cars, tri-flow designs can be quite loud.

A well designed straight through muffler will be quiter on an NA. The myth about NA's needing back pressure is just that, a myth.
