Message	It dampens vibrations, it's not a counterweight. You'd think since the crankshaft is solid steel that it wouldn't flex, but it does. And like any vibration, it would have frequency where it resonates and gets worse. Adding a rubber damper helps get rid of that, sort of like how the shocks on your car stops the springs from bouncing the car around.
