...to constitute a "race" motor. A race Honda engine as I see it is similar to a guy here in town, Kai is his name, that builds/tunes Honda/Acura motors. His street Civic runs a B18C5 naturally aspirated, fully built internals/bolt ons, rev limit at 11k (not a typo), and while I don't know the power he makes, he pulled strongly against my buddy's stage IV TT, beat him by several lengths. The car is lightened, but by no means stripped. For all everyone knows, 8 grand of that 10 grand outlay could be on chroming his adjustable cam sprockets and everything else under the hood. At least around here, the Honda syndrome is defined as the condition where the addition of a fart can and a cold air intake puts the idea in your head that you can spank anything on the road. Could be that he has that...or he may have a very deadly motor under the hood. You will only find out by either running him or watching him run. Couldn't hurt to throw some new plugs in and clean all your contacts - just by going through the process you may find something amiss that you didn't even realize. Might tighten down the clamps on the boost hoses too. None of this may even matter though - if he's only got a week or so to get used to this thing, and he's put all that money into the motor at once, it's gonna be such a different feel that I doubt he'll have his driving down pat enough to fully get the car's capabilities out - that's not a lot of time to really learn what amounts to a fully different car. He's gonna need a lot of practice to get that thing off the line cleanly and going straight, so that's something that could work in your favor as well.
