Message for the function you guys are discussing, but there is definitely one trade off when using copper over platinum; copper plugs wear much faster because of their proneness to oxidation, thus they have to be changed more often.

Platinum doesn't react with anything, even at higher temps. We used Platinum crucibles in some chemistry experiments because the platinum wouldn't affect the chemical reaction, even a super high temps. It is a very stable element and this is what makes it special. Unless you have a special case, I wouldn't change to copper plugs. Just my .02
