Message Last night I had the unfortunate experience of hitting a tree and sign in my Z I was hoping the damage wouldn't be too much but this morning when I took more pics it looks like the two main frame channels that run from the rear to the front of the car has buckled in a few spots and the rear is totally hosed. Passenger rear quarter panel is pretty bad and the hatch is tweaked and has a few nice ripples in it (I am really surprised it didn't pop the glass), the center light and the passenger taillight are kinda tweaked but they still work and wouldn't really need to be replaced, and of course the bumper is gone. One rim is toast (nice 3" or so section missing out of the lip) and two others have some nice curb rashes.

This is my first accident so I am really unsure how the insurance company is going to handle all this...

My worry is when the insurance company does the inspection on the 28th they are going to want to total my car, I am wondering what type of $$$ it would cost to repair the damage or any ideas on what are the usual buy back costs for a totaled Z (91 w/ ~145k mi), also if they decide to total the car do you have to turn it over right then and there? If the buy back cost is too much I would at least want a few days for me to pull all the performance parts so they could be sold and/or used later on.

The front is fine and it drives fine but I'm worried that since the car is so "old" they wont rate the value high and will go for a total option. Does anyone have any experience with Geico on this sort of thing?

For those who are interested in how it happened, It has been raining here off and on all week and up until last night I have been fine with keeping the car in control in the rain but last night I guess I gave it a bit too much gas in 2nd and it started going sideways and I guess I overcorrected cause it went something like this.

sideways -> sideways other direction -> 360 spin -> 180 backwards into sign + tree -> bounce off tree -> spin 180 around breaking rim when it goes up the curb -> come out straight half on median half in street

And no I wasn't drinking nor racing I was coming back from blockbuster to rent a movie and I was less than a mile away from my house.

Thankfully no one else was on the road besides another friend who was following me (thankfully a handful of cars behind) in his car and luckily my passenger and myself are fine, I was a bit sore last night but feel ok now I just wish my poor Z did. It was really odd, just earlier in the night we were talking about rim/tire options and that I should look into getting better tires and tt rear rims (since for some reason when i got the car it had 4 na rims) since the ones I have arent exactly great (420 treadwear)

Here are some pics, more are here
