: you do still run out of bandwidth at some point, but atm allows you to make better use of what is available. You said it yourself. You still have a theoretical limit to how much bandwidth you have available, the connection is still rated at that limit, and if you have users trying to use more than that limit you're inevitably going to start sharing that bandwidth. It's not in the company's best interest to give users limitless bandwidth, it's in their best interest to sign up as many users as possible without getting complaints. But in the end, they DO share the ISP's bandwidth. Don't get lost in the details, use some common sense man.
