Vas, Fs, etc of the speaker, and the box volume he has now and play with the parameters to get the best resopnse if he ports his existing box. I was just meanng he could be better able to understand what his trade-offs were if he read the other thread. His best bet would probably be to have a box designed from scratch to get the least amount of compromises, and yes, he may have a speaker that does not want to be in a ported enclosure. I believe he could still build a 4th order box for a sub that wants a sealed box as long as he doesn't run it below the tuning point of the box much. I had a 4th order box designed to put my Kicker Competition 12's in(they want sealed box) They performed beautifully, the box had a flat 3db gain from 39-105 hz, right where I wanted it. 'Course the box was 7.5 ft^3, but hey, it sounded great! LOL Mike
