When I was in the Navy, occasionally we had to do maintenance inside the fuel tanks on the F/A-18's I worked on. I was an electrician, and of course we had a lot sensors/wiring in there we were responsible for. We actually had to wear respirators, and get inside the fuel tanks. But, of course, the JP5 we used isn't as volatile as automobile gas. Still a scary feeling working in there, especially on electrical stuff!
