If you want a true sports car get the MR2!!! I am currently looking at getting one some day. Hopefully some time soon. They only imported them into the US from 91-95. In 91 there were eleven thousands or so built and only 2-3 thousands sold after that per year. They might be a 4 cyl but the lower end can support up to 500hp. The MR2 community is just as close as the 300ZX community so if you have any problems help is always available. Stock HP & torque #'s are at 200. With a fule defence cut, exhaust, intake, & a boost controler you will be able to run 14-15PSI safely on pump gas. This will up the HP to around 270 or so.
As far as which year to get. If you are a good driver you will be safe with a 91 or a 92. If your driving style could use a little help then you should seriously consider getting a 93+. In 93 they changed the rear suspention. Something having to do with lower control mounting point being moved up 4". Little changed were made from year to year. Also in 93 the option of LSD was available(thus another good reason for looking at 93+) Take a drive in one some day! It's a really fun sports car. To me it feels like a go-cart with a licinds plate.
