Message and the ratio for forth is 1.000, and where you see most top off power, say stock turbos ( upgrades higher, makes sense ) is around the 4800 to 5000rpm mark. If your in 3rd gear and your at 100mph your already at 6547 RPM's. So your running out of top end already and the gear has less pull as it reaches to top of it's ratio. So you can see where your clearance is greater for full pulls in forth, letting you test the car to it's full capacity. So it is the ratio difference between the two that allows great power at higher RPM's I'd say as well. I'll get Tom's input on this today as I swing by. He's our Greg D / Rich of the North west when it comes to Master of Power and how to built it and keep it. That's our Dyno shop as well.

STAGE V++++
Going to XIII and beyond :)
