you could go with a smaller fuel tank, remove the washer fluid reservoir and tubing, switch to smaller wheels, drop superfluous gauges, body kit, glove box, ashtray, arm rest, etc. but at the end of the day you're unlikely to drop 1,000 pounds. To do that, you'd have to take weight out of the engine (small turbos?), lighter rods, pistons, etc.; cut out the t-tops, rear hatch glass (maybe lexan); and remove weight from the frame, suspension etc. Basically, it might be easier to build a brand new car from scratch than to try to strip down a Z (unless you want to cast/forge all new parts in aluminum).
