Message First of all your mechanic was referring to avgas which can be found in several different octane ratings. However %99.9 precent of the time you will find 100 low lead (100LL) this fuel will have a blueish tint. Forget every thing that has been said about jet fuel ( JP8 )this is kerosene along with some additives such as PRIST. It would be very bad if you tried to run your car on JP8. So back to the point 100LL is great fuel and ultra consistent. Every gallon of 100LL, no matter where you get it, is almost exactly the same. As you well know pump gas is not. So it you want to do major tuneing to you engine and you have your cats removed it is a great choice of fuels. Not to mention it is much cheaper than race fuel, costing only about $3.00 per gallon depending on where you live. Some members run it all the time (see below post) and do just fine but you can mix it with race fuel, I am not sure if there any real benifits to this. And by the way if you are wondering who to listen to in this little debate, you can trust me as I am a commercial pilot with a degree that relates directly to this subject. So I am not trying to brag or piss anyone else off, I just happen to have formal training in the subject

P.S. search for "avgas" and you will find more info on the subject. and here is a link for your info
