: I know the C5 Z06 is like this, and various other cars... what are the benefits? a smaller width front tire, larger rear width tire induces understeer, plus, it gives the driving wheels more rubber to reduce traction problems. on a rear or mid engine car, rear drive, the front wheels are REALLY small compared to the rear tires. Just look at any 911 turbo or Diablo. The front tires are usually 215 or 225, whereas the rear are 295 or 335mm. With all the weight in the back, these cars naturally oversteer, so to counter-offset that, they use the tire setup to induce oversteer, along with tweaks in the suspension (camber, toe, caster)
