: I think you have this notion in your mind that doing it that way is "jerry rigging", but it doesn't have much of a logical basis to it. Jerry-rigging----rigging something up to get the desired result(he is achieving this..good job Ash). Yes it works but it is most likely dangerous(that resistor goes out, so does the injector....boom goes the engine) or liable to fall apart when the wind blows the wrong way. : I think you are falling victim to FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt). You dislike something and look down upon it because you don't fully understand it.
I fully understand resistors and their intended uses, Ash used the resistor as intended. I understand everything Ash did.The fact remains that there are resistors and wiring strewn about under his plenum, that's jerry rigged(sorry if you don't like the terminology)....would ghetto work better for you? : I am looking at it in a more logical sense.
: If the injector driver circuit had the resistor placed on the PCB before it left the box and went out onto the wiring harness then I think you wouldn't call that jerry rigging. But since he placed the resistor near the injector you don't like it. To the circuit it doesn't make a difference. Agreed...the circuit doesn't care...it's still jerry-rigged/ghetto : Some people just don't know the inner workings of things and are afraid to get into the nitty gritty details... they look down upon that which isn't a shiny finished product ready for the end user. Others like Ash aren't content with being an end user, they like to know how something works so they can learn how to manipulate it. We can get into the nitty gritty details all you want. I fully understand resistors and their intended use, he used it as intended, this doesn't make it any less jerry-rigged/ghetto. As far as Ash wanting to know how it works, that wasn't the issue at all, he wanted to save money. That's why he bought them in the first place, it wasn't because he was on a crusade for higher learning, stop fooling yourself. As it turns out with the flow testing and the ECU reprogramming he had to do for those injectors, he's right up to where a set of Nismo would cost....and he still has jerry-rigged/ghetto injectors (but they work...so that's a plus :) ) : This "end user" mentality is too prevalent in the import world, especially with Z's and Supra's. These people don't know how a part works, they don't know how to put it on their car, they only know what they hear from others or see on the box.i
I prefer to spend my money on a proven product, that of course will cost more. I'm ok with that. Sometimes it's worth it for the piece of mind. While I agree that there are a lot of boy racers out there that buy shit because it's cool or it's the latest greatest, I'm not one of them.I buy things because they are proven performers, because they will do what I want them to do, when I want them to do it. In this scenario Ash could have bought a set of $800 Nismo injectors and been done with it. He chose the path less traveled and made it work for him.....good job...but it's still jerry-rigged/ghetto. We'll see if it leads to the demise of his engine, it seems they are well on the way.
