Message only assuming if the rods didn't bend or in an even more severe case, the head didn't crack or blow a gasket. the best thing to do is to tear apart the engine and rebuild it, but sometimes if you know the exact circumstances of the hydrolock (i.e. it was at idle when it sucked up the water and they didn't try to restart it), then it's possible that just doing your method along with a compression test will be ok.
