there are obvious differences with somthing like the quality of motor oil, but a reusable paper filter? Are you really telling me that you dident feel ripped off when you had to pay $100 for a cone filter. You can buy just about any brand of filter, off brand and name brand, heck you can buy a universial K&N. THey range from 15$-50. Then all you need is a $3 adapter ring. Drill 4 holes in it and screw it to your MAF then put the filter on it. Ill be installing a dual pop setup and its only gonna cost me 80$ you can buy elbows at home depo and then another universal filter. Look I just hate to see one company have a monopoly on the market and charge way more than somthing is really worth, if you have the skills to do it yourself then i suggest you do and save some money.
