Message Ok, just got the Koyo installed... went ahead and put in a new water pump, thermostat, and coolant temp sensor... and I also swapped out my fan clutch since the one on the car felt a little loose (though after swapping it seemed only "slightly" looser). Checked the fan and the shroud as well and it all checked out ok...

I put in a 3/4 gallon of prestone antifreeze, 1 full bottle of water wetter, and the remainder water (about 2 and 1/4 gallons). So the drive home last night was normal as it was 2am, and rather cool out. Temp sensor never went above about a little below the middle (my gauge normally sits there... Its just a touch below the middle of the gauge).

Today on the other hand was an extremely hot, humid day... more than likely in the high 90s (similar the past two times my Z has overheated!). So my brother and I went out and tried to beat the living sh$+ outta my Z. Went out normal driving, boosting all over the place. Temp gauge got to normal position and sat there for the most part. Decided to try the A/C. Turned the A/C on full blast (set of 70 and then 60) and things seemed to be ok. Strange thing is, the temp gauge actually moved! It had NEVER moved before EXCEPT when she overheated. So with the A/C on, lightly boosting, temp got to right in the middle, and then started to rise a little.

I started to get worried at first thinking it was on the way to overheating, so I turned it off. Temp dropped back to right in the middle and sat there. So I turned the A/C back on. Got on a long straight road, and started boosting like a mad man... With the A/C on just after boosting, gauge went to the 2/3 mark but no higher... As soon as I stopped boosting and cruised, the temp would start to slowly drop a little to around the 1/2 mark. So we continued to drive around town, gauge would do the same... move a little higher under boost, then drop while cruising. Would get higher with the A/C on, and not so high with it off... Decided to do a nice run onto the highway on an onramp. Came around doing about 80mph, under boost, once it came around and straightened, topped out around 100 and slowed down, checked out the temp gauge, about the 2/3 mark. Cruised and it lowered right down.

Then once we got back on the city roads, got stopped at a light with the A/C on... expecting the temp to rise, but it didn't. Just sat. But as soon as I started moving, the temp rose a little, then settled back down...

Decided to get some food, and stopped at the BK. Turned the car right off and went inside. Normally before the Koyo, the system would then overflow the overflow tank and leak out coolant. Came back out a few times (got a call about a job, had to get a pen, etc) and it never leaked. Never smelled of coolant like it used to. When I finally came back out and started it up, it was sitting about the 2/3 mark, then came down nicely once we started driving.

Other thing I noticed, is once the temp gauge would hit the middle of the range, the aux fan would cut in... it never used to until right before I'd overheat... and today it was running CONSTANTLY trying to keep the car cool. It would cut off temporarily once the temp dropped to "normal" range, then as it would start rising it would cut back on...

So anyway... on a day my Z "would" have overheated with the stock radiator... the Koyo did its job. But my Z still seems to be running rather hot... I'd NEVER seen a temp gauge on a Z move like its been moving on mine today. I was even tempted to go out and video tape it to post on the forum but too lazy. Anyway... any thoughts? Is it acting as it should? I mean I "think" I may still have blown my head gasket... and intend to test for it in the near future... but today was RIDICULOUSLY hot for Virginia... and here it is REALLY humid... =( But the Z boosted fine and never went into safety boost... Just this last Sunday while driving home, I'd try and boost in 5th, but all of the sudden it would feel like it held back, and then be locked in Safety Boost. Would reset and everything ok, until I boost in 5th again. 3rd & 4th seem to be fine, but 5th would keep kicking it in Safety Boost. It did this on the way out to the Z Convention in San Antonio and on the way back. =( I wish I had a Techtom or a ConZult to monitor the temps more accurately. The last time I had the ConZult on the Z on a normal day, I hit 199 just sitting with the A/C on and it did 183 before after just starting and sitting before going out. Chris(NJ) Stage (who knows) Z only topped 176 with the Koyo (on a normal day, not as hot as today). I'll probably try and borrow a friend's Techtom for a few minutes later in the week, and see how she does...

Anyway, thanks for the read (sorry its so long), and I appreciate the help.

Oh, and a few shots of the install... =)

Later,
KaZ
