This effectively makes it an external wastegate system, which does spool faster than an internal wastegate system by eliminating the turbulence encountered from the Turbine gasses and wastegate gasses merging. When the gasses merge the merged gasses will be more turbulent than either of the individual streams. Turbulent air is harder to move, causing backpressure. Seperated and external wastegate systems have less back pressure directly @ the turbine exit. According to Corky Bell, the distance between the turbine and where the pipes come back together should be at least 8 inches.
