I did some research on turbo exhaust system design and I think the split tube is NOT a very good idea. quote from "Turbochargers" written by Hugh Maclnnes: "Exhaust gases exiting the turbo will be spiraling. The direction of this spiraling can be either same or opposite turbine-wheel rotation. Which direction depends on the exhaust gas speed. When the exhaust gases are going faster than the turbine wheel, they will rotate the opposite the direction from the turbine wheel and vise versa. In either case, the path for the exhaust gases is considerably longer than if they were coming out axially. For this reason, it's desirable to break up the swirl and change the gases to turbulant flow. This should be done as soon as possible after the exhaust gases leave the turbine. One way to do this is to have a LARGE diameter exhaust pipe from the turbine housing. Once the turbulant flow is established, usually after 18 to 24 inches, exhaust-pipe diameter can be reduced." End of quote. The split flange downpipes did exactly the opposite. The exhaust gases exit the turbine wheel thru a small tube (less than 2 inches ID) for about a feet. Thus I decided not to go with the split flange downpipes. Now open for discussion and roll eyes.
