just from what i know, advertising agencies are getting a little worried at the moment. the industry is going through a GREAT depression, it hasn't been this bad in advertising since the mid 30's and it is actually worse now. they are thinking of new things to keep above water. as we where all doing fine about 2-3 yrs ago. i remember having 14 superbowl spots in 2000. in 2001 it went down to maybe 5 or 6. this last one i had 1 that i worked on. SUX!!! when the economy does well, people don't advertise... when people don't advertise i have NO work. like right now, i have nothing better to do than play around here on the forum when i should be sound designing or mixing a spot. if that DOES happen i am definately out of a job and will have to move over to film which i DO NOT want to do. besides, do you think the public will REALLY go for it?? the post industry will not go for it, a great deal of advertising employees won't go for it. commercials have a place and they are in that place right now. now they might put product placement in without the pop-ups... ie (scott baio walks in the door with a coke can). and besides.... how are they going to put all the product placement in past shows, films, etc...????? are they going to comp a new sony tv in bever cleaver's living room????? i think not. and they can't get rid of re-runs.... so i wouldn't worry about it for a long while... i'm not and it effects my entire career.
