Message Well, the market did have much to do with it, a two sitter 40K sports car was dying out to America's needs of SUV's and more practical type of vehicle's. Remember this is when Ford and others came to the Auto car shows with there monster F trucks and SUV's that we see today. Bigger was better and more over all value for the family type. To import a car from over sea's, companies need a much bigger profit to maintain growth, yet still compete with the Domestic suits. So the sales where dropping fast, to the point where they too ( imports ) had to start looking at what the economy wanted. The market at that the time was flooded with all types of Sports car from all makers ( RX's, 3000's, 300zx, Supra, Stealth, NSX, Viper, Corvette, Mustang, Porsche, Scirocco/ Corrado, MR2, M3's on and on and on ) That's not even touching the European high rollers. So the market just changes with time and eventually it all comes back around like we are seeing now, with the new line up of Sports car imports.

Maintenance wise, the Z is awesome to say the least for what it is and all that it does. But when the time comes for maintenance this is where the avg. owner is not happy. You get the Europe sports car treatment in that department as well. Mostly in the twinturbo model and that is easy to see why. The resale of the car drops in time and miles, yet the maintenance hourly fee goes up with the cost of living like most all other jobs. So even today, turbo replacement on these higher mileage cars is a big factor when looking to buy one. Any TT owner can tell you that it not cheap at all when all said and done, turbo's, parts and labor. But same back then as well, something went wrong, your in for one hella bill from that little two sitter. Everything is so well hidden that it takes much longer to work on vise other cars in its class, i.e., injectors, turbo's, plugs, HICAS system and so on.....

Smog and emissions. The standards of cleaning burning motors was coming into play and Nissans with it's four cat system was still not getting good reviews, So in 96 there last year and effort to say the least they killed horse power to add more emission controlling to the car. But making it 280hp wise the 300 from previous years in the manual transmission models. I even read but never followed up on that in 1994 the 300zx was dropped in Britain for foul emission legislation, while it last only two years longer everywhere else.

The come back tour: This is what I believe all car manufactures do as a marking sale. Pull something away and say no more. Then bring it back as a better than ever type of deal, hence 350z. Once again look at who's first top dog on the list as far as Japan sports car. We've all seen the new Supra,RX8,NSX/t and so on. Supra is down right butt ass ugly, more than before, RX8 well, not no styling grace as RX7 3rd gen., NSX/t at 80k for a Honda, I don't think so. So we've come full circle again and this is just the small of it all.

STAGE V++++
Going to XIII and beyond :)
