you test thru spark plug hole. I have one and it is just a dial gauage on a length of flexible hose. Yuo just screw the hose down into the plug hole, works fine. Go buy a gauge.... will be cheap insurance to help verify what a shop might "say" is worng. White smoke is usually indicative of coolant. you may have a blown headgasket, a compression test should verify that, unless the hole is very small.
