I own a '90 Stage III ZX. Test drove one of the new 'vette Z06s and honestly was disappointed with the acceleration at highway speed. Told the salesman about a place where I benchmarked my ZX and he insisted I try it in the Z06. The area is an approx. 1/4 mi straight-a-way and I run the ZX through starting at 60 mph in fourth gear. At the end, the ZX hits 110 mph. The Z06 only hit 100 mph and we tried it twice. I have little doubt that the Z06 will crush the ZX in the quarter, but the sluggishness at highway speed surprised me. I know third gear would be the optimum for both cars in this test, I just use forth as an indicator of torque. When I have used third in the ZX the ET was much better but the terminal speed only increases by 2 mph to 112 mph. I would guess the same would hold true on the Z06. So my question is, has anyone in a Stage III run up against a Z06 at highway speeds and if so, what happened?? I question whether the one I drove was sick, or would they really have trouble with a ZX III once the hole shot is over.
