Message First off, I am sorry you are having troubles. Sounds like you have been living a nightmare with your Z. I have been as helpful as possible with you in trying to determine the problem and even when I have been blatently insulted by you, I bit my tongue and proceeded to continue to help.

In past conversations about the issues you were having, the first mechanic you took it to obviously didn't know what he was talking about. They even lost your old transmission that I had asked to get from you. I dont know how that happens, but it did.

The issues you were having initially was that you could not get it into reverse without grinding. The mechanic told you that the syncronizer was bad. Soemthing you need to know is that there is not one for reverse. Reverse is a gear that is only intended for you to engage when the vehicle is totally stopped, therefore no syncro is required. When you installed the tranny with a new clutch, it was the following weekend that you took it to the track and raged on it, most likely warping components of the clutch and causing it to drag. This is the reason that reverse would grind. You also stated that if you put it into a gear, then reverse, that it wouldn't. That is because every gear has a syncro. The syncro for those gears will stop the countershaft and allow reverse to engage properly. You were not having any other problems with the tranny at that point.

If memory recalls, your fidanza flywheel's ring gear came loose which required you to pull everything apart to repair it. I dont know if you replaced the clutch at the same time or not. I also recall that the clutch master and slave were replaced. Not sure on that. But, that was about the last time I heard from you. I explained all of these things to you when you approached me with these issues.

When I rebuilt the trans, I installed all new syncronizers and bearings. It was an expensive rebuild. I borrowed all of the "trick" tools from a local mechanic buddy of mine to do the job right. I rebuilt that transmission to the 't'.

The problems you have been having with the car have not been on account of the transmission. I have rebuilt transmissions before with great success. Flywheel's coming apart, clutches warping, all the things you have stated have had nothing to do with the transmission and more to do probably with the way you drive. You did not allow sufficient break-in time for the clutch to thermally cycle, you race your vehicle and you are fixing problems. I also think you need to find a new mechanic. Them telling you it is the rebuilt transmissions fault for these problems is their way out from performing shoddy work on your car.

Again, I Am sorry you are having so many problems with your Z, but taking up these issues like this on this forum, slinging me to the wind is uncalled for.

I gotta ask you, how did the dealer determine that the syncros are bad and that it is not something else as I have stated before? Are you using a stock flywheel? A stock clutch? You have an NA, a stock clutch is plenty of holding power. Although its nice to say you have an RPS or some other fancy clutch, the stock unit IMHO is a superior product and it will take a lot of abuse. I cant say the same for TT clutches (and the stage3 TT guys know what I mean), but the NA unit ran my Z into the high 12's with 45K miles on it. In my book that says a lot for an NA clutch.

I dont know what else to say to you about this, other than I am sorry that you are having problems. I will also add that the problems you are having are not because of a transmission I rebuilt back to factory spec, sounds like you are having problems with other items.

I hope everything works out for you and good luck.

: **It's now official from Nissan
: I have not had my 300zx running since January.
: Since I bought a rebuilt transmission from AshsZ, I have had nothing but problems. I just got a new clutch (JWT)and flywheel (Fidanza) put on. I have not been able to fix my disengagement problem, so I finnaly broke dwn and took it to Nissan. They put in a new clutch & Flywheel. Still have a massive grinding in 2, 3, 4 gears. Nissan is writing a statement for me, that the transmission is faulty. Syncros are bad. This tranny has less than 500 miles on it, and I need a new one. It has cost me over $3000 and still doesn't work. That's 3 clutches, and I'm on my third flywheel. Thanks to this wonderful tranny I now can not afford to fix the car and must trade it in. DO NOT BUY TRANSMISSIONS FROM ASHSZ! I would recommend not to get a rebuild at. all.
