Message and i dunno which is correct

1)a wooden stick, seated on the ground, can withstand so much force from directly above before it shatters, however, with the same amount of force, if there was no ground, and has room to travel, the stick wouldn't break due to the compression from the force and normal force.
This defies the spacers.

2) on the other hand, i'm thinking the effect of a human body from a seat belt in a crash. And this applause the spacers.

Which analogy is right? I cant figure it out. I forgot all my mechanic physics already
