Up until a couple of days ago, I was going to go with a imported Long Block w/Turbo's (VG30DETT) from a local importer for $1,900.
Then, before wanting to give up the cash to put on the waiting list for a 90-93 Manual TT Block, I started doing some-more seaching (Damn, always searching)
I've read & heard that these blocks are hit or miss. They either work or they don't. There was even a rumor of a fellow TT.Net'er going through 6 engines before he got one that worked.
Now, I saw just the bare block for $250 from a possible friend, and it got me to thinking. I can get a new Nissan short block for around $2,400. What could I do with a built up engine w/that bare block? This is the list I've hastily compiled of what all I'd need;
Short Block:
-Crank Journals
-Crank Journal Berrings
-Crank
-Harmonic Balancer
-Crank/Piston Connecting Rods
-Piston’s
-Piston Pin’s
-Piston Rings
-Oil Pump
-Oil Pan
-(Water Pump)
-Front Main Seal
-Rear Main Seal
----Am I missing anything????

I think that if I went the later route, it would wind up costing over the $2,400 I could get from Nissan.

My main question is, if, say, I got the BARE block, bored it a smidgen, got all performance internals, then I'd wind up spending around $4000 for that setup, plus a additional $1,200 for racing heads from SGP. All in all totaling up to a ruff $6K for the "monster" engine.

Now, with the above block combined with my current mod's (See Profile) what turbo's would I need to wind up running to make it worth the while. Also, how much of a horse power, performance increase would I see with the performance block?
Is it basically worth the $6K. I'll mainly be doing road racing, and ocassional track times to see where I'm at in the grand scheme of things, and the weekend drives.

Should I just get the new short block from Nissan combined w/Racing Heads and get use to the power I got before getting crazy? Mind you I'm transforming my 91 NA Stg. I into what I've already amased with my parts buying.

I know its what I want, but I do value most of you openions and was wondering what you'd do in my place. I'm knowledgible enough to do all my own labor, and on a budget, but not a super tight one. => If the performance is worth it, I'll probably throw away the budget, one of those budgets.

Sorry for taking up so much time&bandwitch, but whatca think?
