and honestly if you can find a nice 900 I'd do that. :) I have very limited riding experience (taught myself on Wesmans old CBR 600) and as long as you don't get stupid and keep yourself off the throttle you can grow into a 900. I was always afraid I'd get the 600 and want something faster. Now that I've had my bike a few months, let me just say IT IS AWESOME. You'll love every minute of it. Great gas mileage, lots of attention, definite thrill factor. You should get it. :) Here's a pic of mine: 
Since this pic I've removed all the stickes and installed Frame sliders...looks clean! Hope this helps,
