Message	No, its not "REQUIRED", but it makes life a lot easier. If the hood were to fall, or if it wasn't propped high enough and then you lifted the hoist into it, you could put a dent in it. Takes just a few minutes to pull it off... and makes access to EVERYTHING a lot easier! =) I'd recommend removing it over leaving it.
