You are correct JWT, Stillen, Greddy TD05s are all easy way outs. But not on what to buy on how or easy it is to install. For a long time all you could do is port and extrude hone your manifolds and bolt on some T25 variation such as the JWT500,550,600,650 and etc. All those turbos are decent if you want to be in the under 550RWHP club but they are all pushing the limits of the compressor housing as they are doing is stuffing large wheels on delicate center sections. And they produce power but very efficiently and the diffuser gets sacrificed as well as the A/R ratios are very good. Now the Greddy TD05 kit is nice for a few reasons 1) it use larger housings 2) comes with its own exhaust manifolds and 3) uses external waste gates 4) comes with it own intake and boost outlet piping. All that adds to better flow and better control of boost. Now this really a nice turbo able to do 550-625RWHP and its a bit pricey but not when you consider all that you are getting. Now here is something else you must consider is that the stock turbo uses a flange boost inlet and outlet, the center section and housings are all clocked in a certain way to make them work with stock piping and provide space for the wastegate actuator. One more point to consider is that T2 center sections are not very strong in comparison to say T3 or T4 and won't be able handle the stress of Super Sonic Revolutions for extended periods of time. Especially if you put some bigger heavier wheels on each side that place more stress on it. If you want to do your own thing do it correctly. I wish I had now. Get a better flowing manifold. Greg Dupree is making a very nice stock replacement. Get a T3/T4 based compressor housing have some intake piping made for the turbo, use external waste gates, and have some turbos made by someone who really knows turbos and explain your needs carefully. Currently the best turbo to simply bolt on is the TD05 for power and money. It simply has more power than any JWT and spools faster as well. But if money is no object I would be using some Pentroof manifolds (or mild steel copies) and some GT30 turbos and external waste gates. A few internal upgrades would be ncessary (like a full build up would be good) but stock pistons are the ones that are most prone to shatter on high boost. If you want the cheap way out goto any turbo company and ask them for a set of 300ZX turbo upgrades most will run you about 2K and do about 450-500RWHP but make sure to ask for a new center section not a rebuilt one.
