Arrrrgh!!!! One problem that plagues the import racing world is lack of knowledge. People don't see turbos as housings, bearings, wheels and A/R ratios, they see them as HKS kits or JWT kits. They don't see a cam as a stick with lobes determining the lift and duration, they see them as a "JWT High Boost Cams". They don't see injectors as solenoids with a certain resistance, flow rate and form factor that is made by an OEM, they see them as a "Border kit" Their level of understanding does not go any deeper than the label on the box. If people would read up a little and get a bit more technical, they'd understand that companies like Stillen, HKS and JWT do not make parts. They simply buy parts made by an OEM, relabel them and mark up the price. This really frustrates me. Domestic guys seem to be more knowledgeable... they're "gearheads". While I'm not a fan of domestic cars too much, I respect their technical skill and ability to figure out and manipulate what they own. If you look at a modded turbo Mustang, you'd see the names of the manufacturers of parts... Garret turbo, Lucas injectors, Isky cams... these are the companies who actually make the parts. It is common for guys like that to run 10's and even 9's. They'll even have the part #'s so others can those parts too. You usually won't see an HKS kit on a 9 second Mustang, because if the guy is smart enough to know what it takes to run 9's, he's not going to be foolish enough as to go through a greedy middleman. Now take a look at this board- you hear people using "Stillen Kits, HKS kit, Border kit, Greddy Kit"... the depth of their comprehension ends there. Their mechanical understanding does not go deep enough for them to truly understand what they are buying, or why they need that kit. All they know is the name and specs listed on the box and the reputation. And most people on this board don't even run 12's. While kits like that make it easy for uneducated people to mod their car, I do not want to belong in that group. I am trying to find legitimate information here. I want to know what works and what doesn't, the specs on those parts, and the reason why they does or do not work. I do not want to be an "import racer" and buy an overpriced HKS kit. I apologize if this comes off as being too harsh, but what I see around me here is a support group that is composed primarily of members who do not fully understand what they are talking about, and don't seem too eager to learn, either.
