Message Usually if you have pistons with a higher compression ratio, you'll make more HP for a given boost level, but you run more chance of detonation so race gas is often used. If you have lower compression pistons, you'll make less HP for a given boost level, but you'll have less chance of detonation and you can increase the boost a bit more.

It seems unlikely that rebuilding the engine with lower compression pistons (which people use most of the time) will cause the engine to put out more HP for a given boost level.

The engine management system can help a lot, I remember reading a post on here months ago from a guy who leaned his A/F mixture a bit and gained 60 hp. He was running almost 600 hp if I remember correctly, so it helped maybe 10%.
