the only reason to go with a larger oil cooler on the TT is if your oil pressure remains above 50PSI for long periods of time (eg. running at >100mph on the autobahn, which is why the euro TT comes with larger coolers). The design seems to be conservative, so that if the oil cooler is damaged or clogged, the engine will not be damaged by oil starvation. If you are willing to strip out the stock oil cooler system, you can put in a oil cooler inline between the oil filter and the engine that is bypassed with a thermostatic valve. I think that would be a better system (keeping in mind the risks), but having to remove all the stock plumbing and the pressure valve will be a real PITA.
