I have been trying to figure out what the real performance difference is between sidemounts and frountmounts and since stillen sidemounts and UAS frountmounts are both spearco cores, I figured it would make the best comparison. I been Looking at the spearco flow charts, comparing stillen side mounts to the uas front mount and here is what I have discovered. The UAS is 600mmx300mmx95mm which is 23.8"x11.8"x3.7". The closest core size I could find to the UAS FMIC on spearco's site is 24"x13.04"x3.5" The stillen sidemounts are 9.5"x8.5"x3.5" closest size found on spearco's site was 9.4"x8.35"3.5" If you take estimated horsepower and multyply it times 1.62, you have your estimated cfm. So if you take your estimated cfm and divide it by 1.62 you have the amount of horsepower it would take to flow that cfm. The UAS sized core flows 640 cfm per bank and 1280 cfm total with a 1.5 psi drop, or 790 engine hp with a 1.5 psi pressure drop. The stillen sized cores flow 500 cfm per bank and 1000 cfm total, with a 1.5 psi drop, or 617 engine hp with a 1.5 psi pressure drop. both , of course can flow more air but as you increase boost you increase pressure drop and cooling efficiency drops. But for example, take TD05-18g's which can make 600-650 rwhp, add on 100 hp for loss through the driveline and thats roughly making 700-750 engine hp which would equate to 1134- 1215 cfm. Some may find this useful, I know I do. but alas, I still dont know how to figure out calculate lag and cooling efficiency, and Dont know to what ratio the increase in pressure drop to boost pressure is. If anyone knows, throw me a bone.
