is that neccessary, If you know your car pretty well you can full throttle shift without that option but it would take a little more finesse.

Are you kidding? Do you have any idea how fast the revs climb with no load on the engine? If you try to shift gears at full throttle without something like the RL system in place, you'll redline the motor before you even get the car OUT of the gear it was in...forget about even shifting into the next gear and releasing the clutch...you'll have blown the motor up by then.

With the RL system, you set in a soft-cut rev limit that engages when you step on the clutch. That way, you can keep the throttle planted to the floor while you shift the gears, and the engine won't rev past whatever speed you set in the RL system.

Example: I turn on this option and set the limiter to 4200rpm and take off at full throttle. I pull to 5500rpm in first gear, then step on the clutch without lifting my foot off the accelerator. The RL system cuts the injectors so that the engine speed falls back to 4200 rpms as I'm shifting into 2nd gear. I release the clutch, and the RL system disengages. The engine grabs the tranny doing about 4000rpm, which is just past the torque peak. Sounds like I could have done that myself by feathering the gas pedal, right? Read on...

The benefit is that your throttle plates remain wide open, so there is no surge to slow down your turbo compressor wheels...meaning very little dropoff in boost pressure during the gear shift. Then when you let go of the clutch pedal, the rev limiter shuts off and the engine engages the next gear with the turbines at full speed already. No shift lag...instant boost, instant power.
