| I understand your love of German cars - you have written about that for a while (BMWs at least). My girlfriend has a Boxster that I drive almost as much as my car. My opinions. The Boxster has a great exhaust note, great brakes, and turns more heads. The Z has a far superior shifter (no comparison really), far faster (well duh!), handles comparily (well at least moded). The rear end on the Boxster can definitely get away from you but I have traction control on my Z. The build quality may be better on the Boxster but it is not really fair to compare new car to 11 year old car. The Boxster has its share of rattles and squeaks. The wiper is annoyingly loud and there is no adjustment on the intermittent function. There is more leather standard in the Z.
I know my car so I feel like I can go a lot faster safely but the Boxster is no slouch 80MPH down some back road. The best thing about the Boxster (except the top) is those awesome headlights - and she has stock (ie non HID). It really is the thing that I like best about driving it (but the exhaust note is nice). Also the little things like auto up on the windows. I know you didn't ask about the Boxster but I wanted to ramble about it. I personally have never felt right in a German car - I've liked it but it just wasn't right. The clutch feel I just don't like (Boxster is no exception). I almost never like their shifters. And generally their engines don't swing to the redline as urgently. Yes the BMW I6s have a great feel and sound to them. But I miss the high end kick (or is that just the turbos I miss...) Anyway, you will miss some things about the Z (particularly this board) but I'm sure they are great cars. I will probably have one some day but for now I'll keep the Z. And I would think that if you have only $20k to spend then maybe you should keep yours. A $20k porsche will be half the car the Z is.
