Message Usually, $2,500 on a $16k car wouldn't warrant totalling the car unless there was damage that would make the car unsafe (significant damage to the unibody, etc.). If this truly was the case, I'd say get in touch with the insurance company that totalled it to find out why (provided you know who the company is).

In general though, I'd avoid cars with salvage titles unless you're exceptionally adept mechanically since you don't know what else is wrong. For all you know, the turbos are shot (or are going), the engine has been damaged (rear end collision - think where the fuel tank is), or who knows what else is going on.

If your friend insists on buying it, tell him not to pay more than 50% of blue book private party value (NADA is usually very high) and make sure to get a comprehensive extended warranty - though the car may not quality because of the salvage title.

Again, my 2 cents is to walk away.

sorry. I'm not a smurf pimp any more. (n/m) - sbsTT(MD) 00:00:18 02/07/02
