back in my shop days..... some guy calls us up, "i've got a mk4 supra twin and I broke my alternator bracket, can you guys take care of that?" me not thinking about how the 2JZ is laid out forgot that unlike Nissan, there are no brackets per se and on the Supra the alt is bolted right to the block. "yeah sure....shouldn't be a problem" car comes in and the alternator is just hanging there with pieces of the block attatched to it. the block itself has a huge chunk out of it. we couldn't come up with a good way to fix it (ie....something not ghetto) so we pretty much told him he needed a new block. turns out the car had an extended warranty of some sort and we wound up handing the car off to the people the warranty wanted to put a new motor in it. it was one of the oddest things we ever saw and we never could figure out exactly how anything related to the alt could break off a chunk of the block. anyway...i've been waiting/looking for more supras with broken blocks since then....seems to be an isolated problem tho. I've seen crank walked Eclipses, blown up VG30DETTs, leaky head gasket 7mGTE, lots of junk Mazda motors, but only the Mk4 Supra has physically broken its block.
