legally, they don't have a leg to stand on if they didn't see you do something. I had a similar experience a few years ago. Was in my Wrangler(slooooow, 70mph tops, on a perfect day) and was behind this DUMB BIATCH driving like 40-45 in a 55 zone. Everytime I would go to pass her she would speed up enough to pace me, with me in the oncomming trafic lane until I was about to have a head-on and I would have to slam on the brakes and swerve back behind her. Then she would force me to slow back to 40-45 again. I got LIVID. Talk about road-rage, that kind of s#it is how ppl get shot and killed. This went on for several miles. Eventually, a car pulled out in front of her and I saw that she was going to have to hit her brakes to avoid rear-ending them. At the same moment, a car was comming from the other direction. I floored the gas, and at the second she had to brake the other car passed, and I had my momentum up and got past her. She then passed the other car and got on my ass. I procedded to SLAM on the brakes to about 10 mph and turned around and flipped the biatch off hardcore and swore every cussword I knew at her. Then she would try to get by me and I'd go across into the oncomming traffic, or off onto the grass, or anywhere I had to, to stop her from gettng in front of me again. I forced her to crawl along at a few miles an hour for a loooong time. Finally, I decided to speed back up to the speed limit. Just as I got back up to speed, we pass a cop sitting in a driveway of a business. The chic pulls over to the cop as I keep going. Sure enough, cop comes SCREAMING up behind me, no lights, no siren(illegal). I sat there at 2 mph under the speed limit, got my license, insurance out and waited with my finger on the turn signal to pull over. He tailgated me BAD for several miles. I mean, if I had touched my brakes, he would have been wearing my trailer hitch. The second we crossed over into the next "city limits"(his jurisdiction) he hit his lights. I signlaled and pulled over instantly. I had my arm out the window with my documents before he was even out of his car. He came up, said that a woman had reported that I had swerved in front of her and used obscene gestures. I said "nope, I did not. You must have me confused for somebody else" So, he starts going off, giving me a big ration of s#it, etc, etc. I just said "Did you SEE me do anything illegal? If not, and all my paper is in order you need to let me be on my way." I told him basically he was harrassing me and had no right, as he had not witnessed a violation of ANY kind. I am not usually mouthy with cops at all, but I KNEW I was in the right and he was in the wrong. He had to let me go. If I had admitted to the act, he could have ticketed me, but I denied it and he had no proof, so he couldn't do anything. Mike
