Message from the beginning. week or so ago, i noticed low idle, loss in power etc, felt like a cylinder was not firing, only not quite so drastic. so i did a compression test, got 40 psi on number 6. so my mechanic and i have been workin on it and got the head off today. couldnt find anything wrong with it!! the piston held solvent just as well as the number 2. we put the plug back in the head, turned it over, and sprayed solvent in number 6. held better than any head my mechanic had ever seen. no visible damage anywhere. i thought the piston seemed a little loose in the cylinder. it seemed to me that there was more gap in between the cylinder wall and the piston then any of the others. he said that it looked fine, and that if that was the problem, i would have been smoking like a mofo if that was causing compression of 40. then we started talking about my lifter tick that i have had for some time. i always thought it was in the number 5 or 3 cylinder because i heard it towards the back of the passenger side, but is it possible that the sound traveled through the intake manifold over to that side from the number 6? makes sense to me.. anyone else? he said the hydraulic lifters can some times get backed up, and hold the valves open. the valves all looked fine, and held solvent. head gasket was fine. he was impressesd with the cleanliness of cylinder walls, etc. does anyone have any ideas? were pulling the head apart tomorrow, and im hoping like hell that we find something broken, so my warranty company can pay for some of this. if not, im basically fucked. thats the whole reason i took it to my mechanic to begin with. i cant file a claim myself. he has to. has anyone ever had a problem similar to this? any help would be greatly appreciated. thanx alot.
