Message It was actually easier than I had anticipated. I have done about 15 clutches in my life, so I have enough experience I guess to make it a pretty straight forward job. I must say however that getting the driver's side pre-cat off (with tranny removed) was a serious bitch. The pre-cat is held onto the turbo by 2 bolts and 2 nuts. I could not even find two of them for about 30 minutes. I removed the heat shields surrounding the pre-cat and finally figured out where they were. I had to cut a 13mm wrench in half so I could get it in there to turn the bolts. I swear it has to be one of the worst designs (tight working space) I've ever seen. I ended up damaging the O2 sensors (which I was going to replace anyway) and the gasket that goes between the turbo and the pre-cat.

After I got both pre-cats out of the car, the next adventure was removing the o2 sensors from the cats. I don't know how you guys remove these things with them still on the car. I soaked both units for 3 hours in penetrating oil and still had to put a pipe wrench on them with a 4 foot breaker bar. Rusted on like son of a bitch!!!

This job is definitely not for the beginner. I would have gladly paid someone to do it if I had a spare $600 laying around.

Hopefully today my parts will arrive and I can start the wonderful process of putting it back together. Does anyone know of an easy way to fill the tranny with gear oil?

Sore but happy,
James
