Message due to the fact that they make lots of use of the torque converter. A direct link is always more efficient than a fluid coupling, and with only 2 or so gears, that torque converter is going to have to slip a lot.

People use them because they can hold lots of power.


I'll try to dig up some info on them and I'll let you know what I find out about their efficiency.
