I typically drive 16k miles a year. So, changing it every 3000 miles would mean 5.3 changes per year. If I change it every 2000 miles, that would be 8 changes per year. Assuming each oil change costs $25, that's only an extra $75 per year... $75 is peanuts compared to what I've blown on my engine... well worth peace of mind to me.
