Message there is more friction involved. It transmits engine harmonics to the valve train. The belt is far superiour from a performance stand point. It has inherent dampening qualities against vibrations and little friction. Look at a motor cycle with with chain drive versus belt. The owners of belt drive find it much more comfortable and smoother transition of power. I am starting to sound like Ashe..LOL
