Message Unlike the vasty majority of people here I probably see more dead zeds in a week than everyone here would see in a few years.

I've seen countless engine failures (cracked ringlands, holed pistons, stuffed valves, burnt piston crowns etc) from turning the boost up. Compared to 2 bearing related failures.

I would be MORE worried about running high boost than dicking with a UD pulley.

You only breifly mentioned oil. This should be the #1 concern of ANYONE running any car. Frequent oil changes with top quality oil is the path to keeping an engine in one piece. The highest film & shear strength you can find with anti-dilution properties is whats going to keep those bearing surfaces away from each other.

I personally believe that you all are crying wolf over engine failures related to bearings / UD pulleys. There's a lot greater nastier things out there.

For example...
one slightly off injector (getting old and tired), someone decides to try 1.0 bar.. doesn't know what detonation sounds like kabooom
someone trys 1.2 bar on turbos.. kabooom.. melted #6
someone else is driving along happily .. kaboom... a piece of water channel casting thats floating around blocks off the water passage to #6 .. kaboom...
someone has got rusty coolant.. coolant pipe splits.. kaboom
I could go on and on and on..

I don't see anyone harping on about 16+ psi being risking it, nor do I see anyone estolling the virtues of a regularly flushed cooling system, nor anyone factually arguing whats the best oil out there...

Trust me I've seen more engine failures than you've had hot dinners son heheheh j/k but nearly !

2 have been rod bearing failures, 1 was (we think) from either oil starvation / metal particles in the oil, and 1 was from out and out abuse. 1 was just a knock, 1 was total engine destruction.
