I used the undercoating because it was simple to apply an even layer. I think applying the gasket maker won't allow such an even distribution. If you just apply it & squash the stuff up in there, it defeats the purpose... A layer of the undercoating would be better. Also, you want to hit the top & bottom (where the nut holds the subframe assy. to the mounting studs), otherwise it's pointless. Vibration gets passed at the bottom as well as the top.
Let me know what you think of the ride afterwards. I'm enjoying the hell out of mine. I need to do the NISMO front suspension bushings to match the rear & get everything super tight. ;-)
