Message Pulse Energy found in the ehxaust stream to spin up the turbine. They do loose heat energy but with fairly short runners the trade of is accpetable.

Long runners= better VE but worse turbine efficency. Headers tuned for the second harmonic work pretty good for turbos due to the short runners.
